India's men's 4x400m relay team put up a commendable performance at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, finishing fifth in the final held in Budapest, Hungary. The team, consisting of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Ajmal Variyathodi, and Rajesh Ramesh, clocked in at 2:59:92s.
The race began with Yahiya setting a steady pace, laying the foundation for an exciting race. Meanwhile, Hall from the USA took the lead from Great Britain, showcasing his remarkable skills. However, Jacob struggled with a less than ideal turnover, finding himself second to last at the end of the second lap. Variyathodi, on the other hand, displayed his brilliance by overtaking a Dutch competitor, securing the third-to-last position. Ramesh's impressive performance in the anchor leg propelled India to fifth place.
The USA claimed the gold medal with a remarkable time of 2:57.31 seconds, while France secured the silver medal with a time of 2:58.45 seconds. Great Britain took home the bronze medal, completing the race in 2:58.71 seconds.
In the qualifying stage, India started off in sixth place after the first run by Yahiya. However, a magnificent run by Jacob propelled them to second place. Variyathodi and Ramesh maintained the advantage and shattered the Asian record with a time of 2:59.05s, surpassing Japan's previous record of 2:59.51s.
