T20 World Cup 2024 Live match updates: South Africa beats Sri Lanka by 6 wickets

The T20 World Cup 2024 has begun with a bang, with the first three matches turning out to be thrillers as the USA chased down their record target in the opener, while the following two matches were low-scoring nail-biters. South Africa and Sri Lanka will face off in the fourth match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, which is set to be another thrilling encounter.

Aiden Markram will captain the Proteas for the first time in an ICC event, and he has a point to prove after South Africa failed to meet expectations in the previous two T20 World Cups. But this year, with Quinton de Kock, Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Tristan, and David Miller in their explosive batting unit, they have a strong group and are considered as one of the title contenders.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will rely heavily on their bowling squad to advance in the tournament, as they have great spinners in Wanindu Hasaranga and Mahesh Theekshana, while Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madhushanka are crucial in the pace department. A couple of Lankan spinners, namely Mahesh Theekshana (6.71) and captain Wanindu Hasaranga (economy 7.42), who have both recently battled ailments, would undoubtedly be concerned.
