Sprinter Jyothi Yarraji Smashes Own National Record, Wins Gold in Asian Indoor Athletics Championship

On Saturday, At Asian Indoor Athletics Championships currently taking place in Tehran, 24 year old Indian sprinter Jyothi Yarraji made headlines by breaking her own national record in the women's 60m hurdles, with an impressive timing of 8.12 seconds to grab the gold.

She had previously won silver in the 100m hurdles at the 2022 Asian Games. Her previous national record was 8.13 seconds, set at the same event last year.

Jyothi has now broken the 60-meter hurdles national record six times. Jyothi set a national record last year when she ran a time of 8.20 seconds, then beat it four more times to finish in 8.13 seconds.

Earlier in the day, Jyothi triumphed in her heat with a time of 8.22 seconds, setting the stage for a stellar performance in the final. Having secured a silver medal in the previous edition, she managed to defeat Japan's Asuka Tereda, with Lui Lai Yiu of Hong Kong clinching third place.

This victory adds to Yarraji's accomplishments as the reigning Asian Outdoor champion in the 100m hurdles. She also won silver at the Hangzhou Asian Games after initially being disqualified.

Another Indian athlete, Harmilan Bains, clinched gold in the Women's 1500m event with a time of 4 minutes and 29.55 seconds.
