Shreyas Iyer returns to KKR as skipper, Nitish named Vice-Captain

IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders, today confirmed that Shreyas Iyer will be leading the team for the 2024 IPL season and Nitish Rana will be the Vice–Captain. 

The Indian middle order batter, Shreyas Iyer missed out on the 2023 IPL edition due to a back injury which led to Nitish Rana being named as the captain for the 2023 IPL season. Kolkata Knight Riders finished seventh on the points table at the 2023 season end.

Speaking about Iyer returning to captaincy next year, KKR CEO Venky Mysore said, “We are delighted that he’s back and at the helm as a captain”

Shreyas made a comeback in the Asia Cup which was held in September and was back to his form in the home series against Australia. Speaking about Iyer’s performance in this recent ODI World Cup, the batter scored 530 runs from 11 innings with two centuries and three fifties with an average of 66.25 in the no.4 slot. 

Iyer was in praise of Nitish’s captaincy as it helped their team to grow and bond. He further added, “Nitish did a great job not only filling in for me but also with his commendable leadership. I am delighted that KKR has named him Vice-Captain. No doubt it will strengthen the leadership group”
