Sangeeta Phogat wins bronze in World Ranking Series

Indian wrestler Sangeeta Phogat had a great comeback in the Budapest Ranking Series 2023 on July 15. She won a bronze medal in the 59 kg category. Sangeeta, who has won medals in world championships twice before, showed her skills on the wrestling mat. She had an impressive win in the bronze play-off against Hungary's Viktoria Borsos, who won a silver medal in the U-20 World Championship. Sangeeta scored 6 points while her opponent scored 2 points.

During the semi-finals, Sangeeta Phogat had a difficult match against Magdalena Urszula Glodek from Poland. Sangeeta demonstrated her strong attacking skills with double-leg moves, but unfortunately, she couldn't score any points from them. Even though she was in the lead twice during the match, with scores of 2-0 and 4-2, Glodek managed to turn the tables with her counter-attacks. In the end, Glodek won the match with a score of 6-4. Sangeeta Phogat's victory in winning the bronze medal is a significant achievement, as it symbolizes her successful comeback. She was one of the wrestlers who protested against the alleged sexual harassment by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Her remarkable performance at the international level demonstrates her strong determination and ability to overcome challenges. In response to congratulatory messages, Phogat tweeted a response that appeared to indirectly criticize the WFI and showed her support for those who are fighting against him.
