Starting off strong, the Lions scored two rushing scores in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead. Their dominance continued in the first half, which ended with a huge 24–7 lead. Still, it cost them a lot when they turned down four-down conversions instead of kicking two field goals that could have been scored in the second half. By missing these chances, the 49ers were able to come back and win in the end. Despite playing badly in the first half, the 49ers were still in striking distance, only 17 points behind the leaders. Head coach Kyle Shanahan praised his team's spirit and their perseverance in tough situations.
