Kylian Mbappe has informed the PSG board that he will not be exercising the 12-month contract extension, meaning he will become a free agent at the end of the 2023-24 season. The talented attacker has until July 31 to reach an agreement for an extension, as his current contract is set to expire in 2024. However, it appears that PSG is determined to prevent their valuable asset from departing as a free agent. The talented player, who won the 2018 World Cup, initially joined PSG on loan from Monaco in 2017. Eventually, his transfer became permanent in a significant agreement amounting to 145 million euros, with an additional 35 million euros in potential bonuses, finalized a year later.
Earlier reports suggested that representatives from Real Madrid were in negotiations with PSG, and Florentino Perez, President of Real Madrid, had been exchanging text messages with the owner of the Ligue 1 club. The initial offer from Real Madrid amounted to 150 million euros, but it has reportedly been raised to 200 million euros, including an extra 20 million euros in potential bonuses. However, Real Madrid has not yet succeeded in their pursuit as PSG is demanding 300 million euros, with 250 million euros as the fixed fee and an additional 50 million euros in add-ons.
Kylian Mbappe has specified a condition for his departure from PSG, stating that he will only leave if he is paid the 150 million euros he would be owed for the next season. The talented player has a contract with PSG that entitles him to approximately 150 million euros in wages and bonuses over the next year, which he does not want to miss out on.
In response to the controversy surrounding his letter to the PSG board, Mbappe clarified his intentions, saying that his objective was to continue with the club. He emphasized that staying at Paris Saint-Germain is currently his only option. Mbappe also addressed the reactions to his letter, stating that he did not expect it to cause harm or offend anyone.
