Paris Olympics 2024 Day 4 Live Updates: Manu-Sarabjot win bronze, heartbreak for Dhiraj

Day 4 of the Paris Olympics is a historic day for Indian athletes, with Manu Bhaker aiming to become the first Indian female athlete to win multiple medals in a single edition. Having already clinched a bronze in the 10m Air Pistol event, the 22-year-old now targets another podium finish in the mixed team event alongside Sarabjot Singh. 

Prithviraj Tondaiman will compete in the qualification round of the men's trap event, while Rajeshwari Kumari and Shreyasi Singh team up for the women's trap qualifiers. Balraj Panwar advances to the quarterfinals of the men’s singles sculls in rowing, and the Indian hockey team looks to bounce back against Ireland after a draw with Argentina. 

In boxing, Amit Panghal, Preeti Pawar, and Jaismine Lamboria will step into the ring in their respective weight categories. Meanwhile, the badminton doubles pairs of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty and Tanisha Crasto & Ashwini Ponappa aim to make their mark. ♦ Archery: Bommadevara wins the second set

Dhiraj Bommadevara won the second set and now leads over Adam Li by 3-1. This looks good for the Indian; now he must maintain his composure. 

♦ Archery: Dhiraj Bommadevara coming next up

Dhiraj Bommadevara is all set to compete in the Men's Individual Archery at the Paris Olympics, which begins at 10:45 PM IST. Dhiraj was disappointed in the team archery quarter-finals against Turkey, and he will struggle to keep his medal dreams alive.

♦  Tennis: Nadal/Alcaraz wins first set

Despite a challenging beginning to the first set, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz prevailed 6-4. Now, they'll try to win this match in straight sets.

India's Jasmine Lamboria has been eliminated from the women's 57kg competition. She falls to Neshty Petecio by unanimous decision (5-0). Jasmine Lamboria gets defeated 4-1 in the first round. The first judge is the only one to rule in her favor, 10 to 9.

♦ Boxing: Amit Panghal was knocked out

Amit Panghal has been eliminated from the men's 51kg boxing event. Panghal falls to the Zambians via a split decision of 1-4. Amit Panghal, full of energy, hurls the kitchen sink towards the third-seed Zambian. He changes his approach as he approaches, but the Zambian parries Amit's blows with remarkable skill. The Zambian avoids getting too close to Amit Panghal and dances around the ring to end the game

India wins yet another game by 2-0 beating Ireland in a convincing victory and moving up in the table. Indian Skipper Harmanpreet Singh shines as he remains the highest goal-scorer for India in this Paris Olympics 2024

♦  Bhajan Kaur storms into pre-quarters, wins R32 6-0

Bhajan Kaur impresses. A terrific show from the Indian as she storms into the Round of 16. She needed 5 sets to beat Indonesia's Kamal. However, in the Round of 32, she beats Poland's Wioleta Myszor 6-0. A top show over 3 sets. A good show from Bhajan, who was the only consistent archer in the women's team event yesterday.

India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty dominated their final group stage game on Tuesday, 30 July. The men's doubles duo reach the quarter-final of the men's doiubles competition by topping their group.

India's Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa are in action at the moment. This is their final group-stage game.

 BADMINTON: SAT-CHI in ACTION 

The second game of the match follows a similar story. Both sets of players are sweating profusely in the court and multiple breaks are being taken to wipe the sweat off. They lead 11-8 in the second game.

Bhajan Kaur does it! Some delight for the archers. She beats Indonesia's Kamal Syifa 7-3. A terrific comeback after she went down 1-3. The coach is happy. Bhajan is happy. Earlier in the day, Ankita Bhakat was knocked out in the first round. 

 SHOOTING: India women well outside top 6 after Day 1

That's the end of the first day of women's trap qualification. Spain's Molne Magrina Mar finishes on top of the qualification of 30 shooters with a perfect 75 in 3 series. India's Rajeshwari Kumari is at the 21st spot with a score of 68. Shreyasi Singh is at the 22nd spot with 68 as well. Each of the 30 shooters will have 2 more series on Wednesday. Even a couple of perfect 25s might not be enough for Rajeshwari and Shreyasi to reach the final. 

 HOCKEY: India takes on Ireland in a crucial Pool B encounter

India takes the field again. They are out to face Ireland in their third Pool B match. India needs to improve if they are to make it out of this tough Pool B. India beat New Zealand 3-2 before clinching a draw against Argentina. 

They are currently in the third spot in Pool B of 6 teams. The top 4 qualify for the quarter-final. India's penalty corner conversion has been an issue. Can they deliver better today?

 ROWLING: Balraj Panwar finishes 5th in the quarterfinal

Balraj Panwar finished fifth in heat 4 of the quarter-finals for men's single sculls. The second lot is not eligible for a medal since only the top three rowers from each of the four quarterfinals advance to the semi-finals A/B and the remaining rowers to the semi-finals C/D.

NADAL- ALCARAZ TO PLAY TODAY

Nadal and Alcaraz will take on Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof on Tuesday, July 30. The men's singles match between Taylor Fritz and Jack Draper and the women's singles match between Jasmine Paolini and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova are set to come before this third match on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. It will start after noon local time. This indicates the contest will take place after 3:30 p.m. IST.

Tennis Star Rohan Bopanna announces retirement

Rohan Bopanna announced his retirement from Indian tennis after making an early exit from the Paris Olympics in 2024. The 44-year-old crashed out of the doubles after losing to the French pair of Gael Monfils and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the opening round on Sunday, July 28. After an hour and 16 minutes, the duo of Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji lost the match 5-7, 2-6.
