The leading wicket-taker of this year’s ODI World Cup, Mohammed Shami is in a race for the prestigious Arjuna Award. His name has been recommended by the BCCI to the sports ministry.
During India’s World Cup campaign, Shami was benched for the first four matches but rose to prominence after his stellar bowling figures at the World Cup matches. Shami bagged a total of 15 wickets with an average of 12.06 with an economy rate of 5.68. he added 24 wickets to his name this year the World Cup. Shami is all set to return to the field for the India vs South Africa two-match test series.
The sports ministry has made a twelve-member committee to decide for this year’s sports awards. Retired Supreme Court Justice AM Khanwilkar will be the head of this committee. Former cricketer Anjum Chopra badminton player Tripti Murgunde and others are also a part of this committee.
