Nitish Rana is the new KKR Captain

Nitish Rana, a left-handed batter, was chosen the new skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday in preparation for the 2018 Indian Premier League campaign.
Rana will take Shreyas Iyer's position, who is in danger of missing the entire season due to back surgery and is expected to undergo surgery.

In fact, KKR's remark served as a signal that Iyer's chances of making an early comeback to play currently look improbable.

Nitish Rana would lead the team in Shreyas Iyer's absence, who is undergoing treatment for a back injury. While we are optimistic that Shreyas will recover and take part in the IPL 2023 at some point, we feel fortunate that Nitish, with his captaincy experience from leading his state team in white ball cricket and his IPL experience with KKR since 2018, will do a fantastic job, according to a statement from KKR.

"We are also certain that Nitish will receive all the support required off the field from head coach Chandrakant Pandit and the support staff, and that all the support Nitish may need on the field will be provided by the very experienced leaders in the squad. We hope Shreyas a healthy and quick recovery, and we wish him the best in his new career.

Despite leading Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Rana's performance hasn't exactly been promising. He will reportedly be required to carry out the plan developed by coach Pandit, who will be making decisions alongside team manager Venky Mysore and veteran Mumbai Ranji player Abhishek Nayar.

It should be noted that Rana's poor performance and weak red-ball technique led Delhi to withdraw him from their Ranji Trophy team for this season.
In 12 T20 matches for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Rana has led Delhi to eight victories and four losses.

Prior to the 2018 season, KKR purchased the middle-order batter, age 29, and has had him on staff ever since.
For KKR, Rana played 74 games and amassed 1744 runs at a strike rate of 135.61.

On April 1, KKR will face Punjab Kings in Mohali to begin their season.
