National Sports Federation Portal launched on National Sports Day by Union Minister

At a ceremony held at the JLN Stadium today in honor of National Sports Day 2023, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur unveiled the third iteration of the Fit India Quiz along with other initiatives.

Nearly 500 schoolchildren from different New Delhi-area schools, as well as several accomplished athletes and representatives from the MYAS, SAI, and National Sports Federations, witnessed the event.

Along with launching a National Sports Federations portal and an information booklet on sports infrastructure projects approved under the Khelo India Scheme, the Minister also congratulated the men's 4x400m relay team, who had just broken an Asian record at the Budapest World Athletics Championships.

In his comments, Shri Thakur mentioned, “The Wizard of Hockey Major Dhyan Chand gave us three consecutive Olympic gold medals in hockey in 1928, 1932, and 1936. This is a fitting day for tribute to this great maestro and I’m happy to observe that over the years, coaches and athletes have also played a big role in taking this sporting revolution forward. Coaches and athletes play a big role."

The minister said that there are 3526 events taking place throughout India, which is evidence of how far India has come. This period in Indian sports is remarkable. 18 medals have been won at the World University Games in 60 years. Our team achieved 26 medals from the competition this year alone. Additionally, we are seeing outstanding success in every sport, whether it be Aditi Gopichand Swami in archery, Antim Panghal in wrestling, or Praggnanandha in chess. Together with Neeraj Chopra, who hasn't won gold in every high-level international championship in the sport, and Parul Chaudhary, our 4x400m relay team put on a fantastic performance at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, the Minister continued.

The third edition of the Fit India Quiz was also announced after the first two versions were successful. With a total prize pool of Rs 3.25 crores, it is the largest sports and fitness quiz competition for school children in India. Speaking about the Fit India Quiz, Shri Thakur stated that he was astounded to see children from the Tenga Valley of Arunachal participating, along with isolated areas from Andaman, Sikkim, and other places. In the quiz, they were the top teams.

The National Sports Federations platform, which went live on Tuesday, is in keeping with the Indian government's goal for Digital India, which aims to ensure good governance and ease of doing business. It is a centralized website for NSFs that will serve as a single point of contact for processing tasks including National Sports Federation elections and the annual renewal of NSF recognition.
Similar to this, a portal for online application submission and processing was established, and it will be used to manage all Khelo India Scheme applications for the construction and improvement of sports facilities as well as requests for sports equipment. Beginning in September 2023, this site will be open for grantees, States, and UTs to submit their requests for financial support.
