Following Mohammed Shami's stellar performance against New Zealand in the semifinals, authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district are gearing up to build a mini-stadium and an open gym in the star pacer's village.
The district magistrate, Rajesh Tyagi, revealed this plan, stating, "We have proposed the construction of a mini-stadium and open gym in Mohammed Shami's village (Sahaspur Alinagar)."
The aim is to establish these sports facilities in Sahaspur Alinagar, the hometown of the renowned Indian pacer, as a gesture of recognition for his exceptional contributions to the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Despite missing the initial matches in the league stage, Shami has been pivotal in guiding the team to the finals with his outstanding performance.
In a display of solidarity, Jayant Singh, a leader from the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) party, has advocated for funding to support the development of a sports facility in Shami's village.
Shami's prowess against left-arm batters has been a standout feature of his performance. Throughout the World Cup, he has shown remarkable control, conceding only 32 runs from 52 deliveries to left-arm batters.
Having taken an impressive 23 wickets in six games at an exceptional average of 9.13 and a striking rate of 10.91, Shami stands as the tournament's leading wicket-taker, with his best figures being 7/57.
His standout performance in the semifinals, claiming seven crucial wickets against the Kiwis, including prominent batsmen like Kane Williamson and Devon Conway, has further solidified his reputation.
The upcoming World Cup 2023 final against Australia promises an exciting showdown, where Shami will once again showcase his skills at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
