Mohammed Shami Becomes Highest Wicket-Taker For India In ODI World Cup History

Mohammed Shami, who initially sat out the first four matches, has emerged as a significant force for India in the ODI World Cup, displaying outstanding form with his fast-paced bowling. His inclusion in the lineup against New Zealand proved to be a wise decision as he made the most of the opportunity.

The right-arm fast bowler impressively secured 14 wickets in just three matches, establishing himself as India's all-time leading wicket-taker in World Cup history with a total of 45 wickets, surpassing the previous record held jointly by Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan, who had 44 wickets each.

Shami's remarkable performance began in Dharamsala against New Zealand, where he delivered an outstanding 5/54, earning him the well-deserved "Man of the Match" award in his World Cup debut. He continued his excellent form with impressive figures of 4/22 in the match against England in Lucknow.

In the match against Sri Lanka on Thursday, Shami once again showcased his prowess as the primary wicket-taker for India, securing another remarkable five-wicket haul (5/18). His outstanding performance played a crucial role in India's commanding 302-run victory, making them the first team to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

Shami's exceptional performance in this World Cup has now tied him with Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, as both have achieved three five-wicket hauls in ODI World Cups.

India's victory against Sri Lanka marked their seventh consecutive win in this year's 50-over tournament and could be considered their most dominant, as Sri Lanka's batters were dismissed in under 20 overs while attempting to chase a target of 358 runs.
