Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) started their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund. Kylian Mbappe scored a penalty in the 49th minute after a handball by Niklas Suele. Achraf Hakimi added a second goal in the 58th minute. PSG dominated the game and could have won by a larger margin.The win puts them in control of Group F. Coach Luis Enrique was pleased with the team's performance and believes this win will give them confidence going forward. Dortmund, on the other hand, struggled and will need to improve in their next match against AC Milan.
PSG is in a transitional phase following the departures of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Marco Verratti. Luis Enrique, the former Spain coach, needs time to implement his ideas with the new players.
PSG had five new signings in their lineup, including Ousmane Dembele and Randal Kolo Muani. They controlled the first half but struggled to convert their possession into goals. The breakthrough came early in the second half with Mbappe's penalty. Dortmund felt the handball decision was harsh. Hakimi scored the second goal with an assist from Vitinha. Dortmund made substitutions to try and get back into the game, but PSG had several chances to score again. The match ended with a disallowed goal for PSG due to offside.
