Lord Shiva theme to grace proposed International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi

The Narendra Modi Stadium in India holds the title of the world's largest cricket stadium, but there's another exciting development for cricket enthusiasts: a Lord Shiva-themed stadium in Varanasi.

On September 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will initiate the construction of an international cricket facility in Varanasi's Ganjari neighbourhood, with an estimated cost of Rs 450 crore. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) will actively participate in this momentous ceremony, expected to witness the presence of renowned cricketers.

Lord Shiva's Divine Influence:

The new Varanasi stadium will incorporate a distinctive Lord Shiva motif, featuring captivating design elements. The media building will take the shape of a Damru, symbolizing the eternal rhythms of the universe, while the floodlights will resemble Lord Shiva's Trishul. Classic 'ghat-style' spectator seating will be provided, accommodating 30,000 fans, along with state-of-the-art amenities.

Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma affirmed that preparations for the Prime Minister's visit and the foundation stone-laying ceremony are underway, promising a grand spectacle with the participation of BCCI officials and star cricketers. The event will also showcase performers from the Kashi Saansad Sanskritik Mahotsav and honour its winners. Sportsmen from Varanasi and neighbouring districts will receive invitations to join the event.

State-Funded Marvel in Varanasi:

The state government acquired the land for this project at a cost of Rs 120 crore, while the stadium's construction is budgeted at Rs 330 crore. Once completed, the 30,000-seat international cricket stadium will be primed to host international matches, bolstering cricket in Uttar Pradesh. The commissioner also revealed plans for infrastructure development around the stadium.

This new stadium marks a significant milestone for cricket in Uttar Pradesh and is poised to attract major international and domestic matches, contributing to the local economy and employment opportunities. Prime Minister Modi's visit underscores the government's dedication to advancing sports infrastructure. Modi's strong affinity for cricket and his advocacy of sports as a means to promote fitness and discipline among youth add to the event's significance.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony promises to be a momentous occasion with the participation of star cricketers and dignitaries. It is set to leave a lasting impression on the people of Varanasi and cricket enthusiasts across the nation.

Notably, Varanasi's stadium will be the first in the Purvanchal region and the third in the state of Uttar Pradesh, following Green Park in Kanpur and Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
