Virat Kohli who was in South Africa with India’s test squad is returning back home due to personal reasons according to BCCI.
Kohli missed the three – day intra-squad game which is currently going on in Pretoria. The detail of his emergency isn’t clear but the BCCI has said that Kohli will be returning back for the first test in Johannesburg which will begin on the boxing day, December 26th at Centurion. Kohli returned back to Mumbai three days ago after taking permission from the team management to skip the three-day intra-squad. A number of senior players of the Indian team are a part of this intra-squad game.
Whereas on the other hand, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the two match Test series against South Africa because he has sustained a finger injury during the second ODI against the Proteas. The BCCI stated, “He hasn’t fully recovered from the blow he sustained to his ring finger while fielding in the second ODI. He remains under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.” It can now be seen that there is no chance of him returning back before the test series since his recovery is yet underway, thus the BCCI has decided to release him from the squad immediately.
Talking about the practice games which will end on Friday, the Indian team has made the best of every opportunity. Skipper, Rohit Sharma, pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna looked impressive too. Most of the team players are currently under the captaincy of KL Rahul in the ODI series. Shreyas Iyer who was a part of the ODI squad was released from the squad in order to prepare for the test series. The last time Iyer played a test game was back in March.
