KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow SuperGiants, has pulled out of the remaining IPL 2023 games as well as the World Test Championship final against Australia the following month due to an injury. The LSG skipper made the announcement of the new development on his official Instagram page on Friday. After much thought and discussion with the medical experts, it has been decided that I will shortly have a thigh operation. I'll be focusing most of my attention on my treatment and recovery during the coming weeks.
While attempting to block a Faf du Plessis boundary during an IPL 2023 encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Ekana Stadium earlier this week, Rahul hurt his thigh. Rahul gripped his leg and fell to the ground suddenly, seeming to have injured his hamstring, leaving the pitch.
Before the major final, this causes the management of the Indian team some headaches. The only specialist wicketkeeper in the team is KS Bharat, who is missing Rahul. In the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which had just finished up, Bharat made his debut and participated in two games.
The front-runner to replace Rahul is Ishan Kishan, who was also a member of the Indian team for the BGT but did not play. Another choice for the BCCI is Wriddiman Saha, a fixture in the Gujarat Titans playing XI in the current IPL 2023. It would be fascinating to watch whether or not the BCCI selection committee chooses him. Beginning in 2022, Saha was informed by the BCCI selection committee (at the time led by Chetan Sharma) that he would no longer be given consideration for the Indian Test squad.
