East Bengal delivered an impressive performance in the Indian Super League (ISL) as they defeated NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) with a resounding 5-0 victory. This win marks East Bengal's best showing in the ISL so far.
The match took place at the Salt Lake Stadium, and East Bengal dominated from the start. They took the lead in the 14th minute when Borja Herrera scored a spectacular goal from outside the NEUFC box. East Bengal continued to press and doubled their lead in the 24th minute through Cleiton Silva, who was assisted by Saul Crespo's clever 'rabona kick'.
After the halftime break, East Bengal came back with even more determination and extended their lead in the 62nd minute. Substitute Nandhakumar Sekar made an immediate impact by assisting Cleiton Silva for his second goal of the match. Nandhakumar himself got on the scoresheet in the 81st minute, completing East Bengal's dominant performance.
Unfortunately for NorthEast United FC, it was not their day. They missed a penalty in injury time when Nestor Albiach hit the bar with a left-footed shot. East Bengal's defence also played a crucial role in their victory, with Hijaji Saleh making a crucial tackle to deny NEUFC a goal-scoring opportunity.
This win is only the second for East Bengal this season, but it propels them to the seventh spot in the ISL standings with eight points from seven matches. NEUFC remains in the sixth spot with nine points from eight matches.
Overall, this victory will be remembered as one of East Bengal's most memorable outings in the ISL. They showcased their attacking prowess and solid defence, leaving NEUFC struggling to find a way back into the game. East Bengal will look to build on this performance and continue their climb up the league table.
