Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan has requested to be released from the upcoming Test series against South Africa due to personal reasons, according to a press release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As a result, Kishan has been withdrawn from the Test squad, and KS Bharat has been named as his replacement.
Kishan's withdrawal comes shortly after the Indian Test team also lost the services of Mohammed Shami, who sustained an injury. The BCCI had previously stated that Shami's ability to participate in the Test series would depend on his fitness, and the BCCI Medical Team has not yet cleared him.
In addition to Kishan and Shami, Deepak Chahar was another player who missed the T20I series and the ODI series due to a family medical emergency. Chahar had also missed a T20I against Australia earlier this year for the same reason.India is set to face South Africa in a two-match Test series following the conclusion of the ODI series. Unfortunately, Shami has been ruled out of both tests.
The BCCI also announced that Shreyas Iyer will not be playing in the ODI series after the first match in Johannesburg, but he will join the squad for the Test series. Iyer will participate in the inter-squad game before the two tests.
The Indian Test squad for the series against South Africa includes players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli,KL Rahul (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Prasidh Krishna, KS Bharat (wk), Shreyas Iyer, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
