According to a source, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking into the idea of holding the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in its second half. The action is being taken at the same time as the Lok Sabha election of 2024 is anticipated to take place.
The General Election 2024 is set to take place between April 19 - June 4 in 7 phases. On Saturday, March 16, the Election Commission declared the election date.
A BCCI official was quoted as saying, "The Election Commission of India will announce the election schedule on Saturday at 3 pm, after that, the BCCI will decide whether should be moved to Dubai, currently, a few top BCCI officials are in Dubai to explore the possibility of organizing the second half of the IPL in Dubai."
IPL 2024 in UAE?
In the meantime, it's been widely reported that some IPL teams have gathered the passports of their players in case they need to relocate during general elections. Still, BCCI insists that the IPL will remain in India.
The UAE hosted the IPL during the COVID-19 outbreak. The matches were held in three locations: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on 22 March, with reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a South Indian derby at their home venue, MA Chidambaram Stadium.
