Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians' (MI) captain, has been under intense scrutiny since taking over. This year's IPL is proving difficult for him, as hostile spectators continue to boo the MI captain. Not only that, but his subpar decisions on the pitch have also drawn criticism. The all-round player has stated that the criticism doesn't touch him, but it appears that the rage directed at him will only become stronger. In addition, MI is yet to win a match this season. Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has claimed that Rohit Sharma might reclaim the captaincy.
Rohit to lead MI in remainder IPL 2024?
"It's a big call, and it can happen because from what I know about these franchises and their owners, they answer the phone right away," Tiwari stated.
"It's a clue that Hardik is under pressure, if he is not bowling having bowled in the first 2 games, and in conditions where there was swing on offer in both first and second innings, I think he felt the pressure with the kind of reception he received, I want to say something big, I have this feeling that during this break, Rohit Sharma could be given back the captaincy from Hardik Pandya," the former cricketer said.
Tiwari explained why the franchise and owners handed up the funds, stating that it began when they shifted the captaincy from Rohit to Hardik. "Changing a captain who has led your team to five titles is a significant event, and the captaincy also appears jaded given that they haven't won a single game. Mistakes happen," he stated.
Not the first time
If something like this happens, Hardik Pandya will not be the first. Earlier in 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was named CSK captain. Nevertheless, the group did not play well, dropping six of their eight games. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named the new captain of CSK after Jadeja announced his resignation as captain. An official statement stated that Jadeja decided to step down to concentrate more on his game.
