Inter Miami return: Lionel Messi injured leg, substituted 37th minute

Before halftime of Inter Miami's match against Toronto FC, Lionel Messi walked off the pitch with what head coach Gerardo Martino described as an "old injury." The Argentine star might not play in their US Open Cup final against Houston Dynamo on Wednesday, according to Martino. However, there was no official statement regarding the type of injuries.

Injured Messi was replaced by Robert Taylor in the 37th minute of play with the score still 0-0. He gave DeAndre Yedlin the captain's armband before he left, leaving him with a sombre expression.

Jordi Alba was injured early in the game which was also a loss for the team. Despite the two hits, the team easily won 4-0 thanks to goals from Facundo Farias and Benjamin Cremaschi. Taylor, Messi's replacement, scored twice.

It should be noted that Messi sat out Argentina's encounter against Bolivia last week and missed Miami's 5-2 loss at Atlanta on Saturday due to fatigue.

“There is no chance they will be there on Sunday. I know we have a final to play but they won’t go near the pitch if they can’t play,” said Martino.

He further said, “The scans he had with the national team, they didn’t show any injury. We still saved him to be safe.” “We don’t think he has a muscular injury. That’s also from a conversation I just had with him. But we have to continue being careful. And we’ll look at it the next few days.”
