Ind vs Eng 3rd test Day 2: Ashwin takes his 500th wicket

On Day 2 of the 3rd Test against India in Rajkot, England's leading batsman Ben Duckett showcased his fearless brand of Bazball cricket by smashing a quick-fire century, helping Ben Stokes' team reach 207-2 in just 35 overs. After tea in Rajkot, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed his 500th Test wicket. Before the third session ended, Mohammed Siraj, claimed the vital wicket of Ollie Pope (39). In India, Duckett achieved the fastest century by an England batsman in a Test match. England trailed India by 238 runs at Stumps on Day 2 in Rajkot.

Crucial contribution by Indian tail-enders

On Day 2, India scored 445 in the first innings, with key contributions from Dhruv Jurel (46), Ravichandran Ashwin (37), and Jasprit Bumrah (26). After England made early gains with the dismissals of Kuldeep Yadav (4) and Ravindra Jadeja (112) in the first hour of Day 2, Ashwin and Jurel combined for an eighth-wicket partnership of 77 runs. To neutralize the English danger, debutante Jurel displayed remarkable poise, admirable perseverance, and grit. As Jurel adjusted to the situation, Ashwin, on the other hand, grabbed control of the scoring, and the two finally put together a fifty-plus run stand for the eighth wicket.

On Day 2, England's James Anderson claimed his first wicket of the innings when he dealt India's nightwatchman Kuldeep a blow by causing an outside edge. While Jadeja was looking for a flick shot, Joe Root outwitted him with a ball that spun quickly; instead, the ball found a thick edge and returned straight to Root, who completed a perfect catch.

Rehan Ahmed claimed two wickets, quickly eliminating Ashwin and Jurel, although Mark Wood finished with the highest innings total, recording numbers of 4/114.

Sarfaraz Khan’s debut

Earlier on Day 1, Rohit's 11th and Jadeja's fourth Test centuries, punctuated by several sword-swinging celebrations, and a 204-run stand shifted the momentum dramatically. Sarfaraz Khan, making his Test debut, gave England a taste of their own medicine with a scorching fifty. Although the 26-year-old was run out due to an error of judgment by Jadeja, India finished the day on 326/5, with the latter undefeated on 110.
