Outrage Over Sydney Sweeney's Controversial Betting App Ad: Are Women in Sports Still Being Sexualized?

Women in Sports Are Athletes, Not Objects. 🏃‍♀️🏆

It’s 2026, yet women in sports are still being judged and $exualized for their appearance instead of being seen for their performance.

No girl enters sports to “show off” her body. She enters to compete, train, win and build a career. 💪

Even today, many girls have to push against family pressure, social expectations and stereotypes just to pursue sports. And then come comments like, “Don’t play like a girl” or “Don’t behave like a girl.”

And here’s another important point: this campaign is for a betting app, not a sports organisation.

The ad featuring Sydney Sweeney has sparked debate online, with some praising its creativity while others questioning how women athletes are represented and sexualized in advertising.

Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with the ad?” maybe we should ask: Why are women athletes still so often judged by their bodies before their achievements?

And if you think women have it easy, look at the restrictions women face in places like Afghanistan. The conversation is much bigger than one advertisement.
