BCCI releases the Indian squad for T20 World Cup 2024

On Tuesday, the Senior Selection Committee selected India's 15-member squad for the next T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the West Indies and the United States beginning in June.

Sanju Samson has pipped KL Rahul for the second wicketkeeper position, while Rishabh Pant has returned to the Indian team after over fifteen months. The bowler-keeper has not played international cricket since his terrifying vehicle accident in December 2022.

Samson has scored 385 runs in the IPL at a strike rate of 161.09 and has emerged as a revolutionized T20 hitter. After blowing hot and cold in the past, he has been more consistent with his hitting, and in a team lacking of power hitters, Samson's presence could aid India in the middle order.

Despite his terrible recent form since taking over the leadership of the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was retained as vice-captain. Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans skipper who has been struggling in the IPL, is added to the standby list, along with Kolkata Knight Riders' big batter Rinku Singh.

India's World Cup campaign will begin on June 5 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, followed by a blockbuster match against Pakistan on June 9 at the same site. India will subsequently play the United States and Canada on June 12 and 15, respectively.
