On Saturday, BCCI announced, India Men's U19 team will engage in a tri-series alongside South Africa Men's U19 and Afghanistan U19 as part of their preparations for the upcoming ICC Men's U19 World Cup in South Africa.
The tri-series commencing from Dec 29, is scheduled at the Old Edwardians Cricket Club in Johannesburg, where each participating team will face the others twice.
India U19 to commence their campaign against Afghanistan U19 on December 29, 2023, and subsequently face South Africa U19 on January 2, 2024. The tri-series final is slated for January 10, 2024.
The BCCI statement announced, "India U19 to feature in a tri-series against South Africa U19 & Afghanistan U19 ahead of ICC Men's U19 World Cup." This tri-series is part of the India Men's U19 team's preparations for the upcoming U19 World Cup in South Africa.
Batsman Uday Saharan will be leading the defending champions.
U19 World Cup in South Africa
The upcoming ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024 is set to showcase 16 teams in competition across four locations in South Africa.
The participating teams have been organised into four groups of four, with the tournament scheduled to commence in January. A total of 41 matches will be played, leading to the final in February.
In Group A, India is joined by Bangladesh, Ireland, and the USA. Group B comprises England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland. Group C features Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, while Afghanistan, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Nepal make up Group D.
India will commence their journey to defend their title, against Bangladesh on January 20. India holds the record for the most celebrated team in the history of the U19 Men's Cricket World Cup, boasting five titles.
This edition of World Cup brings forth an innovative format, incorporating a Super Six stage that kicks off on January 30. Teams progressing from the group stages will enter two groups of six, charting the course toward the Semi-Finals and, ultimately, the Final.
