Rohit Sharma is leading Team India for the first time in a Boxing Day Test on 26th December at the SuperSport Park against South Africa. The skipper and his team will do their absolute best to win this test series against the Proteas because they aim to end a 31-year-old wait for a test series win on South African soil.
When the toss took place, it was the home team that won the toss and elected to bowl first against the away team. Soon it was time for the play to begin and the two Indian openers made their way in the middle. Young gun, Yashasvi Jaiswal took his guard and was going to face the first ball of this Boxing Day Test Match. It was only after five leaves that Jaiswal hit the ball to the square leg and India got their first boundary. In the next few overs, Rohit took his time to watch the ball but in Rabada’s over he hit square to the wicket and off it went to the boundary, India now getting two much-needed boundaries. In the fifth over the skipper got dismissed by Rabada. The fielder who kept at deep fine leg took the skipper’s catch and India here were 13/1 in five overs.
It was just after some minutes did the debutant Burger struck for the South African team. He dismissed Jaiswal after he edged the ball and it went to the wicket-keeper. India, here losing their second wicket. India now wants a strong partnership between Kohli and Gill but those dreams were stamped on because Gill gets bowled on the leg stump and gets his glove on it making the South Africa team skipper Bavuma take a DRS. The referral was given as out and India now were in deep trouble being 24/3 in 11.1 overs.
After two dropped catches by the home team, luck favoured the Indian side as we were getting to see a partnership being built between Kohli and Iyer. It was soon enough that India reached a fifty-plus score on the scorecard and a fifty-run stand was seen between Kohli and Iyer. After a long time, we finally saw the first six of the match produced by Shreyas Iyer. A quick delivery down the leg side which made Iyer hit over the deep backward square leg fence.
