India’s position as the rank 1 test team according to the ICC test team ranking. India got this rank, scoring 121 points and crossing Australia this year. Before this, Australia was at first rank in the test team ranking, but according to a new update, Australia secured 116 points this time.
There is a particular method of calculating ranks. While measuring points, the ICC changes the cutoff date. So performances before 3-4 years don’t get calculated in the current year’s ranking. This year, the ICC considers scores after May 2020. In that also, from May 2020 to 2022, it will have only 50% weightage and 100% weightage to the score after 2022. Australia’s victories against New Zealand and Pakistan have not been calculated. Thus, it resulted in lowering its rank to second position. But India benefited from this new cutoff date. India’s defeat against New Zealand hasn’t been calculated.
Both the teams with first and second ranks will compete with each other in the World Test Championship.
