Team India achieved their biggest-ever win against Pakistan in ODI history, surpassing their 140-run win in 2008, during the Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours. The match, which was delayed by rain, finally took place on Monday, September 11, in Colombo. It was a collective effort from the Indian team, with the batsmen leading the charge and Kuldeep Yadav's five-wicket haul sealing the victory.
The Indian innings started cautiously, with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul building a solid foundation. Kohli kept the scoreboard ticking with singles and doubles, while Rahul took on the spinners, particularly Shadab Khan. Both batsmen reached their fifties and then accelerated, taking on all the Pakistani bowlers. Kohli reached his century in just 84 balls, becoming the fastest batter to reach 13,000 ODI runs. Rahul also scored his sixth ODI century in as many deliveries.
India finished their innings with a massive total of 357 runs, thanks to Kohli's unbeaten 122 off just 94 deliveries. The partnership between Kohli and Rahul was the highest in ODI Asia Cup history and the highest for India against Pakistan.
Chasing 357 was always going to be a difficult task for Pakistan, and the Indian bowlers made it even harder. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj bowled excellently, causing trouble for the Pakistani batsmen. Fakhar Zaman and Imam ul Haq struggled to read the swinging deliveries, and Imam eventually fell to Bumrah.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam showed some resistance, but Hardik Pandya dismissed him with a brilliant delivery. Rain interrupted the match again, but when play resumed, Kuldeep Yadav wreaked havoc on the Pakistani lineup. He took five wickets, helping India secure a comprehensive victory by 228 runs.
With this win, India opened their account in the Asia Cup and will be looking to continue their winning streak and secure a spot in the final. The Men in Blue will be in action again soon, hoping to maintain their form and dominance in the tournament.
