Indian Women boxers show their best performance at the World Boxing Championship as four boxers storm into the finals. The four gold medal contenders for India are Lovlina Borgohain, Nitu Ghanghas, Nikhat Zareen and Saweety Boora with their powerful punches to win the semi-finals.
Olympic Medal winner Lovlina Borgohain had a clear 4-1 victory over two-time Olympic medallist Li Qian of China in the 75kg category. Asian medallist Saweety Boora dusted Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree with a 4-3 decision in the 81 kg category. Common Wealth Gold medallist Nitu Ghanghas defeated Kazakh’s Alua Balkibekova in the 48 kg category and defending champion Nikhat Zareen defeated Colombia’s Ingrit Valencia in the flyweight category.
In the upcoming Finals, Nitu will be facing 2021 and 2022 Asian Championship bronze winner Lutsaikhan Altantsatseg of Mongolia. Lovlina will face 2018 CWG silver medallist and 2022 CWG bronze medallist Caitlin Parker of Australia. Nikhat will face 2017 and 2022 Asian Championship silver medallist Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam. Saweety will face 2018 world champion Wang Lina of China. The boxers have assured 4 medals for India in the 2023 Boxing World Championship against the 3 medals from the previous Championship.
