IND vs WI 4th T20I: India defeats West Indies by 9 wickets, evens series at 2-2

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased their exceptional talent as India convincingly defeated West Indies by nine wickets in the fourth T20 International. Chasing a target of 179, India reached the goal with three overs to spare, resulting in a series tie of 2-2.

In this crucial match, India required a strong performance from their openers, a task which Gill (77 off 47 balls) and Jaiswal (84 not out off 51 balls) flawlessly achieved. The duo's partnership of 165 runs marked India's most successful opening stand in the ongoing series.

Contrary to concerns of a slowing pitch in the second half, the recently refurbished centre square maintained its true nature throughout the match. Gill and Jaiswal capitalized on the favourable conditions, amassing 66 runs during the Power Play phase, including eight fours and three sixes.

Gill's bat delivered all three sixes as he surpassed the fifty-run mark, while Jaiswal's boundary off a wide ball displayed his enthusiasm for achieving his maiden T20I fifty.

The partnership of 165 runs between Gill and Jaiswal equalled the second-highest opening alliance record for India in T20Is, a feat shared with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

India's bowlers played a significant role in restricting West Indies to a below-par total, considering the pitch's favourable characteristics. Despite the pitch's tendency to slow down as the match progresses, West Indies struggled to establish substantial partnerships. Shimron Hetmyer (61) and Shai Hope (45) were the only contributors of note.

India's bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh (3/38) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/26), effectively controlled the West Indies batting lineup. Despite Hetmyer's late surge, Gill and Jaiswal's standout performance ensured that the target posed no challenge to India's dominance.

The match illustrated a potential shift in dominance to the younger generation in the T20 format. The fifth and deciding T20I of the series is scheduled for the next day.
