Hockey World Cup 2023: India beat Japan 8-0 in Classification Encounter

India put up an excellent show against Japan in the Hockey World Cup classification match at Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela on Thursday as the Indian team won the contest convincingly by 8-0. 

Abhishek and Indian captain Harmanpreet have two goals to their name. Both teams failed to score any goal until halftime, Mandeep Singh had India ahead in the 32nd minute. 

India then went on to score three more goals. India continued with the same attacking approach in the final quarter adding four more goals. Players Vivek Sagar Prasad, Ex-captain Manpreet Singh, and Sukhjeet Singh went on to score a goal each.

Japan was pliable in some moments, With Goalkeeper Takashi being on the net performing satisfactorily. However, the Indian attack was too hot to handle for the Japanese defence.

India’s Abhishek was given the Man of the Match for scoring two goals.
