The Maharashtra Grandmaster International Chess tournament started in Nagpur from 1st of June till 9th June. This festival is a great treat for the audience and it's happening at Naivedhyam North start, Nagpur.
There will be a total of 4 events which are the centre of attraction of this festival. There will be the first festival under Elo (unit of measuring skill level in chess) in 2000, and another one for under 1600 Elo. The third will be the Maharashtra GM International tournament and a fascinating, challenging match between teen talented GM Raunak Sadhwani and world championship challenger GM Nigel Short and another match between GM Vidit Gujrathi and Russian GM Peter Svidler.
The festival will have players from 15 different countries and it will follow the Swiss league format of 11 rounds. These under 2000 and 1600 Elo rounds are mainly arranged for players who have just started their careers in Chess so that they can strengthen their game. This will be beneficial for all those for whom it's not economically possible to participate in foreign tournaments. This would give rise to extraordinary local talent.
