Former Pakistani cricketer Abdul Razzaq is under fire for commenting about Aishwarya Rai while discussing Pakistan's poor performance in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Backlash emerged when a video of his statement with Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, and others surfaced online. In the clip, Razzaq dragged Aishwarya into the conversation, making shocking remarks about the possibility of marrying her. Younis Khan's positive captaincy intentions were contrasted with Razzaq's inappropriate statements.
Social media erupted with criticism, labelling Razzaq's remark against Aishwarya as 'shameful' and 'disrespectful.' Netizens expressed their displeasure, calling out Razzaq's inappropriate behaviour. Pakistani fans and former cricketers, including Shoaib Akhtar, condemned the derogatory comments.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Former Pakistan player Shoaib Akhtar strongly criticised his ex-teammate Abdul Razzaq for his controversial comments about Aishwarya Rai during an event in Pakistan. Akhtar expressed his disapproval of Razzaq's inappropriate remarks, emphasising that no woman should face such disrespect. He also criticised those present at the event for not immediately addressing and denouncing Razzaq's remarks.
Afridi, upon realising the gravity of Razzaq's statement, expressed his intent to text Razzaq and urge him to apologise for the inappropriate comments. Afridi acknowledged Razzaq's tendency to make controversial statements, vowing to address the issue.
