With the toss, Jos Buttler chose to bat first, ending Pakistan's hopes of advancing to the semifinals. Pakistan needed to win by at least 275 runs against England by batting first, amassing a massive total, and achieving the best-case scenario of reaching the last four. Nonetheless, having lost that possibility right before the toss, England proceeded with the confidence they had built up from defeating the Netherlands in their previous game.

With an impressive 82 runs for the first wicket, English openers Malan and Bairstow got off to a fast start. The Pakistani bowlers seemed out of sorts until the first half of the inning, but Dawid Malan and Joe Root hit their fifties. The winner of the previous game, Ben Stokes, carried over from his performance, scoring a rapid 84.

The seam trio managed to take three wickets; Mohammad Wasim Jr. returned with two, and Haris Rauf claimed three. Thanks to a late burst from Willey, England managed to post a valiant 337 for nine.

Willey dismissed Pakistan's opening pair, Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman, early in the innings as they attempted to chase an enormous score at the Eden Gardens.
While playing a pull shot of Gus Atkinson on 38, Captain Babar Azam looked good in a few of his shots.

Adil Rashid and Moeen, two England spinners, bowled out Mohammed Rizwan and Saud Shakeel during the middle overs. After making his first-ever CWC fifty, Salman Agha looked impressive, but Willey quickly took advantage of him.

To keep the supporters happy, Haris and Wasim cracked a couple sixes. Prior to Woakes coming back to take the final wicket and help England win their most recent game, the two scored another 53 runs for the last wicket.
