Big blow for Team India as Mohammed Shami ruled out from the test series and Deepak Chahar withdraws from the ODI series

Team India pacer, Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the two-match Test series after the medical team did not clear him for the upcoming series. BCCI said in their press release on Saturday morning.

Shami is recovering from an ankle niggle after his splendid run at the ODI World Cup. He was named in the test squad earlier, but his availability seems as a concern for the team as he is yet to get clearance from the board’s medical team. BCCI has yet to name a replacement for Shami. Team India will begin their Test campaign in South Africa on December 26th in Centurion.

Deepak Chahar

Pace bowler Deepak Chahar has also withdrawn from the ODI squad after he conveyed his unavailability for the upcoming ODI series due to a medical emergency in his family. The board named Akash Deep (pacer) as Deepak’s replacement.

BCCI also mentioned in their press release that Shreyas Iyer will be returning to the Test squad to prepare for the two-match test series.

BCCI also said head coach Rahul Dravid and the other support staff will not be a part of the three-match ODI series as they will be overlooking the inter-squad game ahead of the Test series.
