The Women’s Premier League is tentatively set to begin between February 22nd and March 17th. The BCCI has shortlisted Bengaluru and Delhi as venues to host this year’s Women’s Premier League.
As per latest information by ESPNcricinfo, the first part of the Women’s Premier League is set to be played in Bengaluru and the second part of the tournament will be played in Delhi and the knockout matches too will be played in Delhi.
There are 5 teams participating in this tournament, comprising of 22 matches which will happen across two different venues. The reason for this is that the pitch will remain fresh and all the teams can have a fair play across the two different venues.
The Women’s Premier League had its inaugural season last year in 2023 and was played only in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai but recently BCCI secretary, Jay Shah said that he would like to host the second season of the Women’s Premier League across different venues within a small period of time. The BCCI later came onto a conclusion that it would be better to have two venues for this year’s Women’s Premier League. The two venues hosting the Women’s Premier League 2024 are Bengaluru’s (M Chinnaswamy Stadium) and Delhi’s (Arun Jaitly Stadium)
There will be matches over 10 consecutive days at each of the grounds.
Mumbai Indians won the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League in 2023 and are currently the defending champions. They beat Delhi Capitals in the final.
