Australian Open updates - Zverev beats Norrie in a thrilling five-setter, advances to the quarter-finals

6th seeded Alexander Zverev beat the British No.1 Cameron Norrie in a thrilling five-setter game. He beat Norrie, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (10-3) to book his spot in the quarter-finals.

 

The German took the fifth set to a tie-break and won it 10-3. He did his very best to hold onto his nerve during this match deciding tie-break.

Zverev’s great combination of holding a big serve and consistent baseline play was one of the major factors that helped him with this win. Norrie on the other hand looked fully charged. He frequently came to the nets and played brilliant drop shots against the tall German. He played smart on some shots and tried to disrupt his opponent’s rhythm.

 

Zverev made a total of 54 winners and hit 15 aces. In the post-match presentation, Zverev said, “At the end of the day, this is a Grand Slam. Everybody is playing their best here.” He also spoke a few words about his opponent Norrie and said, “Cam was definitely playing amazing tennis and I’m just happy to be through.”

The German is all set to play against the young gun of Spain, Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals. The Spaniard cruised through his win against the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 on Monday night at the Rod Laver Arena.
