At the Asian Mixed Doubles Squash Championship in Huangzhou, China, on Friday, the Indian team of Dipika Pallikal and Harinderpal Singh Sandhu won the gold medal. Notably, this is a six-country competition in which athletes from Iran, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, and the host nation, China, competed. Prior to the important Asian Games, this is more of a test event. Mixed doubles will be played for the first time at the Asian Games. The mixed doubles competition will be a new inclusion this time around, even though squash has been a part of the Asian Games for more than 20 years.
By taking first place in the "test event," the Indian team got off to a strong start. Ivan Yuen and Rachel Arnold of Malaysia were defeated in the final by Dipika Pallikal and Harinderpal Singh Sandhu, the third-seeded team in the competition. Although it was a tight contest, the Indian team won 2-0 (11-10, 11-8). This is a huge lift for the nation with only a few days left before the major event. Additionally, this was Dipika Pallikal's first competition since the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The top-seeded Syafiq Kamal and Aifa Azman were a challenge for the Indian team on their road to the final. The Indian team dominated the contest and prevailed 2-0.
