Enzo Fernández, an Argentine midfielder, has been officially signed by Chelsea from Benfica for a record 121 million euros. Chelsea has already spent approximately $225 million in the January transfer window.
The Blues paid more for Fernández than they did for Romelu Lukaku in 2021 when they paid £97.5 million. Benfica acquired Fernandez from River Plate in Argentina in August for a reported fee of approximately $10 million.
The 22-year-old midfielder was a crucial member of Argentina's World Cup-winning squad, and his arrival at Stamford Bridge is expected to enhance the Blues' midfield's creativity and quality.
In a last-minute attempt to qualify for the Champions League, Chelsea will hope that its most recent spending spree helps the team climb the Premier League standings, where it currently sits in 10th place, 10 points behind the top four teams.
