Friday’s victory was historic for Afghanistan as it marked their first T20I victory against Pakistan. Afghanistan was successful in containing its neighbour for 92/9 in 20 overs and chased the 93-run target with 6 wickets and 13 balls to spare.
Pakistan allowed debutants Tayyab Tahir, Zaman Khan, Ihsanullah and Saim Ayyub while it rested its seasoned openers, Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan. The top scorer on the Pakistani side was Imad Wasim with 18 runs, followed by Saim Ayyub scoring 17 runs, and Tayyab Tahir scoring 16 runs.
The Man of the Match was Afghanistan’s senior all-rounder Mohammed Nabi, giving a spectacular performance scoring an unbeaten 38 runs with 1 six and 3 fours and recording bowling figures of 2 for 12 from 3 overs. Nabi’s knock and Najibullah Zardan’s crucial 17, not out helped them reach the target.
This win marks Afghanistan’s first victory over Pakistan as they had lost the previous matches. But this victory was won with style with Nabi sending the ball for a six.
