Making their Asian Cup debut, Tajikistan defeated Lebanon 2-1 to guarantee their spot in the round of 16. Despite having two goals disallowed by VAR, Tajikistan managed to rally and score their first goal in tournament history. Before Nuriddin Khamrokulov scored the game-winning goal in extra time, captain Parvizdzhon Umarbayev equalised in the 80th minute with an incredible free kick. After Qatar, who won the tournament, Tajikistan now sits second in Group A as a result of their victory.
A curling shot by Bassel Jradi gave Lebanon the lead early in the second half. But their hopes were scuppered when, in the 56th minute, Kassem El Zein was sent off for a stamp after a VAR review converted his first yellow card to a red one.
Although they rested some of their best players, Qatar—who had already guaranteed their spot in the round of sixteen—was still able to defeat China 1-0. In the 66th minute, captain Hassan Al-Haydos scored the game-winning goal with an incredible volley from a corner to guarantee the hosts finished the group stage with a maximum of points.
