He'll be part of important committees and can meet with foreign leaders.

Changes in Parliament

* They're even challenging the election of the Parliament's Speaker.

* This is unusual and hasn't happened in many years.

Gandhi's Journey

* He's been in Parliament since 2004 but has never had a big role before.

* People used to think he wasn't a serious politician.

* His image improved after two long marches across India.

Election Results

* The Congress party did much better in recent elections.

Gandhi won two seats by big margins.

* The opposition alliance got 232 seats, close to the ruling BJP's 240.

What's Next

  • Gandhi will speak up on issues like exam cheating and army recruitment.
  • He'll work with other opposition parties to challenge the government.

This role could help him become a stronger leader for future elections.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge praised the decision, saying Gandhi will become "the voice of the last person standing" in Parliament.

The appointment comes as the opposition INDIA alliance looks to present a united front against the ruling BJP-led coalition in the new Parliament session.
