What is a crying club?

Whether we find solace in shedding tears privately or confiding in our closest friends, even the strongest among us occasionally need an outlet for emotional release. However, it seems that crying is often done in secrecy. But what if we told you that there is a legitimate space designated for crying? Surprisingly, there exists an authentic club solely dedicated to letting our emotions flow. In this unique crying club, located in Surat, Gujarat, India, individuals from all walks of life can come together to freely express their emotions through tears. It serves as a haven for those feeling lonely or exhausted, providing an opportunity to cry openly but not alone.

Initiated by Kamlesh Masalawala, an ironic laughter therapist, a club has been established where individuals can openly express their emotions through tears. The concept revolves around providing people with a platform to release their sorrows and alleviate built-up frustrations by allowing them to cry. The inspiration for this concept stems from the observation that babies' crying is an indication of their well-being.Drawing from this idea, it is applied to adults as well. However, the presence of social stigma surrounding crying makes it challenging for individuals to express their emotions openly. The organizer of the Healthy Crying Club firmly believes that a stress-free life can only be achieved when we release toxins from our bodies and crying serves as a key mechanism for this purpose. Masalawala acknowledges that as individuals mature, they tend to mask their emotional side. To appear "strong," people often suppress their emotions and refrain from crying, especially in a public setting. He firmly believes that it is crucial to challenge this perception.

Encouraging individuals to embrace their emotions, he advocates for the belief that crying is a healthy and cathartic experience. The club is conveniently located near the Ma Vaishnoshaktidham Temples, and it conducts sessions on the last Sunday of every month from 8 am to 10 am. People are warmly welcomed to participate, shed their tears, and leave feeling free from stress. Participants of the club have shared their experiences, spanning from housewives to working women, fathers, and professionals. Sarika Ganjawala, one of the participants, highlighted the overwhelming stress she faces as a working woman juggling household responsibilities. She expressed how shedding tears helps her release the accumulated stress and brings a sense of relief.

Another individual, a Bhavnagar native, frequently attends the club as he experiences feelings of loneliness. Crying it out during the sessions helps him relax and find solace. Certainly, a genuine reason to shed tears has been sought after by many. Don't forget to bring the tissues along!
