On Wednesday, Turkey's Air Force carried out airstrikes on Kurdish targets in Iraq and Syria to retaliate against an attack on the Turkish defense company TUSAS by reportedly killing five and injuring 22 others. The strikes by Turkey reportedly destroyed 32 targets which were conducted just hours after Kurdish militants carried out a deadly strike on Turkish defense company located near Ankara. Turkey's Ministry of National Defense confirmed about the airstrike. TUSAS plays a key role in Turkey’s defense industry because it manufactures military aircraft, UAVs, and other defense systems for Turkish military.
Attack is suspected to have been carried out by PKK
The Turkish government has blamed the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which has been waging an autonomy movement in southeastern Turkey since the 1980s. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and Defense Minister Yasar Guler accused the PKK of the attacks. Guler said, "We give these PKK scoundrels the punishment they deserve every time. But they never come to their senses.". We will pursue them to the last terrorist." The attack occurred a day after the leader of Turkey’s far-right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahceli, raised the possibility of granting parole to PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan if he disbanded the group and renounced violence.
CCTV footage from the attack on Turkey's TUSAS defense company shows two terrorists armed witH rifles. A man and a woman, were captured on camera entering the building 4:00 PM local time. They carried backpacks and opened fire shortly after huge explosion damaging state run defence company. Eyewitness said gunfire last for over an hour. The attackers also killed a taxi driver before using his vehicle to reach the facility.
