Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, leading an all-party delegation from India, has delivered a strong message during his visit to the United States: Pakistan will face consequences if it continues to allow terrorism across the border into India. Speaking at the Indian Consulate in New York,
Tharoor said, “No one sitting in Pakistan will be allowed to believe they can just walk across the border and kill Indian citizens with impunity. There will be a price to pay, and that price has been going up systematically.”

India’s warning comes after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. In this attack, 26 civilians—including one Nepalese citizen—were killed. The attackers reportedly singled out victims based on their religion, aiming to provoke communal violence. This attack was claimed by a group called The Resistance Front (TRF), although they later retracted their claim. India responded with “Operation Sindoor,” targeting terrorist camps and launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) with precise strikes.
India’s Stance: Not Seeking War, But Will Not Tolerate Terrorism
Tharoor made it clear that India does not want war with Pakistan. Instead, India wants to focus on growing its economy and improving the lives of its people.
“We are not interested in warfare with Pakistan. We would much rather be left alone to grow our economy and pull our people into the world they are getting ready for in the 21st century,” he said.
However, Tharoor pointed out that Pakistan is not satisfied with the current situation between the two countries. He described India as a “status quo power,” meaning it wants things to stay as they are, while Pakistan is a “revisionist power,” seeking to change the status of the land India controls.
“If they can’t get it through conventional means, they are willing to get it through terrorism, and that is not acceptable to us,” Tharoor added.
What is Operation Sindoor?
Operation Sindoor was India’s military response to the Pahalgam attack. Instead of a large-scale war, India chose to hit specific terrorist bases and headquarters in Pakistan and PoK. Tharoor explained that India’s strikes were “measured and precise,” targeting only those responsible for terror activities.
He said, “The time had come to hit hard and hit smart, and that’s exactly what India did.”
A Message of Solidarity and Global Concern
During their visit to the US, the Indian delegation went to the 9/11 Memorial in New York. Tharoor said this visit was emotional and symbolic, reminding the world that terrorism is a shared problem for both India and the United States.
“We are here in a city which is still bearing the scars of that savage terrorist attack in the wake of yet another terrorist attack in our own country,” he said.
Why is India’s Message Important?
India’s message is not just for Pakistan. It is also for the global community. Tharoor and his team are traveling to several countries—including Guyana, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, and the US—to explain India’s position and to seek support against terrorism. They want the world to understand that India is not the aggressor, but a victim of cross-border terrorism.
What Does This Mean for the Future?
Tharoor’s warning is clear: if Pakistan continues to allow terrorists to attack India, there will be consequences. India will defend itself, but it will do so in a measured and responsible way.
“You do this, you’re going to get this back. And we have demonstrated with this operation that we can do it with a degree of precision and with a degree of restraint that the world, we hope, will understand,” Tharoor said.
Understanding Both Sides
It is important to look at this situation from both sides. India says it is acting in self-defense after repeated terror attacks. Pakistan, on the other hand, often denies any involvement in these attacks and accuses India of aggression. The international community has a tough job: to judge what is really happening and to help both countries find a peaceful solution.
India’s focus is on development and peace, but it is also determined to protect its citizens. Tharoor’s message is that India will not ignore attacks on its people, but it also does not want conflict. The world must understand that terrorism hurts everyone, and countries must work together to stop it.
A Call for Global Action Against Terrorism
Shashi Tharoor’s visit to the US and his strong statements are a reminder that terrorism is a global problem. India wants to work with the world to stop terrorism, not just in South Asia but everywhere. The message is simple: no country should allow its land to be used for attacks on others, and there must be consequences for those who do.
As Tharoor put it, “We didn’t want to start anything. We were just sending a message to terrorists. You started, we replied. If you stop, we stop.” This is not just about India and Pakistan—it is about the safety and security of people everywhere.
Shashi Tharoor’s words in the US are a call for peace, but also a warning that India will not tolerate terrorism. The world needs to listen and act together to stop the cycle of violence. For children and adults alike, the message is clear: violence and terrorism hurt everyone, and peace is the only way forward for a better future.
