New York's governor declared a state of emergency on Friday due to heavy rainfall that triggered flash flooding throughout the city, resulting in subway disruptions and road closures. A flash flood warning was issued for New York as over 5.08 cm of rain fell by Friday morning.

Governor Kathy Hochul referred to the floods as a "life-threatening event" and urged New Yorkers to follow the authorities' warnings. She extended the emergency declaration to Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

Approximately 18 million people in the New York metropolitan area and other major East Coast cities were under flood advisories, warnings, and watches. According to the reports, floodwater entered New York basements on Friday morning, leading to the closure of roads in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Hoboken, New Jersey, due to flooding.

The Metropolitan Transportation Agency (MTA) suspended several subway lines, including the G line connecting Brooklyn and Queens, and closed many stations. The MTA advised people to stay home unless absolutely necessary. New York's LaGuardia Airport, a major city airport, closed Terminal A due to flooding, resulting in flight delays.
