Queen Consort Camilla Will Not be Donning the Koh-i-Noor Crown

Britain's Queen Consort Camilla, has selected a crown for her May coronation ceremony with her husband, King Charles III, at Westminster Abbey without the contentious Kohinoor diamond from the colonial era.

Because the original of one of the largest cut diamonds in the world is on the crown of Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth II's mother, Camilla chose the Queen Mary Crown for her coronation.

According to the palace, the Queen Mary Crown was taken off display at the Tower of London so that it could be used for the ceremony on May 6 to honor the late Queen Elizabeth II with jewels.

“The choice of Queen Mary’s Crown by Her Majesty is the first time in recent history that an existing crown will be used for the Coronation of a Consort instead of a new commission being made, in the interests of sustainability and efficiency,” Buckingham Palace said.
