Nigerian chef Hilda Baci achieves Guinness World Record for the longest solo cooking marathon

After a marathon 93 hours and 11 minutes of constant cooking while on her feet, a Nigerian chef has won the Guinness World Record for the longest solo cooking session, the organisation announced on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Hilda Baci said her May 11–15 attempt was intended to "put Nigerian cuisine on the map" and that she had trained at the gym to maintain her balance for the four days required to beat the record.

I want Nigerian cuisine to spread across the globe. After her attempt, Baci told journalists, "You know, I want it to be a common thing to make Egusi soup in an American home." I want you to be able to walk into any supermarket and get ingredients from Nigeria.

Baci's record attempt drew the attention of her native Nigeria at a time when many are struggling with high costs, gasoline shortages, and other economic issues. The Lagos State governor, the vice president, and Nigerian Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage visited Baci while she was cooking. Baci previously hosted a TV cooking show and led Nigeria to victory in a regional cook-off for spicy jollof rice, a West African specialty.

Guinness World Records stated that Hilda Baci has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual). She broke the 2019 Indian cook's 87-hour, 45-minute record, according to Guinness.
