It's been more than 12 hours, but we will keep looking, told A naval official to the BBC
The search for survivors proceeded on Monday with air wing assistance after cadaver dogs worked all night.
The navy also said that it would look into what led to the accident.
Admiral Pogkrong Monthardpalin, a representative for the force, told the BBC that such an accident "has nearly never occurred in the history of our force, notably to a ship that is still in active use.
According to officials, the ship went down after holding moisture, which filled its hull and shut off its power room.
The crew tried to keep control of the ship when the power went out, and the ship leaned to one side before sinking at 23:30 local time on Sunday (16:30 GMT).
The ship was battered in the storm on Sunday as it was on a patrol 32 kilometers (20 miles) east of Bang Saphan in the province of Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Intense images of the ship tipping over its side and backup rescue ships trying to find survivors in turbulent waters were released on the Thai Navy's Twitter account.
Only the HTMS Kraburi succeeded in reaching the ship before it sank, even though three navy ships and helicopters were dispatched to help.
Based on the navy, the frigate took up most of the Sukhothai's crew. There were sailors on life rafts and in the sea wearing life jackets. On their condition, the navy has supplied very little detail. Pictures of medical professionals at the dock carrying members of the crew off on stretchers are circulated in the local media.
Officials were looking into the calamity, according to a statement made public on Monday by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha.
Based on the news that I am actively tracking, he added.
In the middle of the 1980s, the US constructed the HTMS Sukhothai for the Thai navy.
